How warm is it in the tunnel and how should our guests dress?

Accepted Answer

Our heated event rooms, including the event cavern and our seminar rooms, allow you and your guests to dress appropriately for your celebration. If you have planned activities outside these rooms in the tunnel, we recommend sturdy footwear and a jacket, as it is usually around 15 degrees there, the terrain is occasionally uneven and the floor is not as clean as in our facilities.

In which languages are team events offered?

Basically in German, and depending on group size and availability, also in English.

Do guests experience claustrophobia at VersuchsStollen Hagerbach?

Accepted Answer

Indeed, this is extremely rare. Our event cavern is only 70 metres from the tunnel entrance, and most of our tunnel rooms are spacious enough that even a lorry could pass through. In fact, our facilities are often more spacious than your local supermarket. A helpful reference point: if your guests can drive through a motorway tunnel without problems, they will be in good hands with us!

Is technical equipment available to meet our requirements?

Event cavern for events up to 200 people: Since spring 2022, we have been working with Winkler Livecom for technical equipment. In addition to decorative technical elements such as wall projections and coloured spotlights, we now also have excellent sound and lighting technology that is very easy to operate. Microphones, projector and screen, amplifiers and speakers as well as stage technology - everything is available in the event cavern. Want to dance? The event cavern has disco lighting that automatically adapts to the music. There is also a disco ball and fog machine - all easily controllable from a tablet. Do you have guests who cannot travel from abroad? With our live streaming technology, we can even cover such requirements! Glück-auf cavern for events over 200 people: The "Glück-auf" cavern is like a blank canvas. The frame is good. Stage elements are on site. Suspension points for event trusses and cabling for the control room are pre-installed by Winkler Livecom. All other technical equipment is brought to the site by our technical partner following consultation with the customer, installed on site, operated during the event and professionally dismantled afterwards.

How late can we celebrate at VersuchsStollen Hagerbach?

One of the great advantages of celebrating at our event venue in the mountain is the ability to party late into the night without consideration for other guests or neighbours. Events in the tunnel are possible until 4 am, with a surcharge of CHF 220 per commenced hour from midnight onwards.

What are the payment terms?

Accepted Answer

Basically on invoice - credit card (Visa, Mastercard, Diner) or cash is also possible. For events with turnover exceeding CHF 5000, a 50% advance payment may be required.

Are there exclusive agreements with service providers?

Accepted Answer

No. We have "preferred partners" such as Winkler Livecom for technical equipment and dine&shine for catering that should not go through our in-house kitchen - but you are not bound to them.

Are there parking facilities?

Accepted Answer

Yes, free parking spaces are available right in front of the tunnel. For large events, additional spaces can be rented from the farmer.

Is the venue wheelchair accessible?

Accepted Answer

Yes, almost the entire tunnel is wheelchair accessible and a separate toilet is also available.

Is it possible to use the venue exclusively?

Accepted Answer

Weddings are always exclusive with us. For other events, we are happy to negotiate. However, our facility is primarily a research infrastructure and its operations must be guaranteed.

Do you offer accommodation for guests?

Accepted Answer

We do not have rooms ourselves. However, there are several hotels in the surrounding area in Sargans, Walenstadt, Unterzerzen, Flumserberg, Bad Ragaz or Maienfeld. We are happy to help you with recommendations.

Do you have your own catering?

Accepted Answer

Yes, we have an in-house kitchen in the mountain at Restaurant Hagerbach. However, we are also open to events with external caterers, as long as they are professionally set up.

Question 15

How do we entertain children during the wedding reception?

Accepted Answer

For celebrations in our event cavern, the adjoining "Alphüttli" can be used as a children's room. The children have their own space whilst still being part of the celebration. Painting, watching Netflix or playing with our large Hubelino marble run - the children won't get bored. Meals can be taken in a children's group in the Alphüttli or together with parents in the event cavern. High chairs for up to 5 small children are already provided.

If the youngest become too tired to celebrate, the adjoining Alpenqueren seminar room can be used as a temporary "sleeping area" so parents can continue celebrating.

Are there special supporting programmes to entertain our guests?

An aperitif in the rustic tunnel marks the start of a unique evening. A blasting demonstration is perfect for ending the aperitif inside the tunnel and continuing the celebration. Team building challenges, wine tastings, combined offers with service providers in the Heidiland region and much more.

How much time is needed between courses at dinner?

When organising events, it is important to find a balanced time schedule to ensure that all guests have a pleasant experience. There should be sufficient time for guests to converse without anyone going hungry or becoming bored. At the same time, the schedule should be designed so that service staff are not rushed and dishes can be served in the highest quality. To achieve this, there are a few basic principles. - From entering the hall to the first course, a minimum of 30 minutes. This gives guests 15 minutes to find their seats and chat on the way. It also allows the service 15 minutes for beverage service. - Between courses, a minimum of 45 minutes, and for the main course, at least 1 hour. This allows sufficient time to serve the dish, eat it, clear the table settings and refill drinks for the next course. - We recommend conducting longer speeches or programme blocks after the main course. These often take longer than planned, and a time shift for the subsequent dessert is easier to manage than for the main course, where meat must be cooked to perfection. So if the main course is served at 20:30, the block with games or speeches should start at 21:30 or 21:45. - For a thoroughly successful event at our event venue, we recommend starting dancing or bar service only after dessert. An earlier start to dancing can result in dessert being neglected and guests who don't wish to dance feeling left out.

How far in advance should one book the venue?

Accepted Answer

The sooner the better. We are happy to hold your reservation provisionally for a month if you need time to think. In particular, the popular Fridays before Christmas are quickly booked up. So don't take too long to decide.

What is mined at VersuchsStollen?

Accepted Answer

VersuchsStollen is not a mine, but a research infrastructure. Many things are researched about what can be done underground. Transport, food production, energy storage and much more.

What happens in case of bad weather? Can you offer an alternative option?

Accepted Answer

There is no bad weather in the tunnel! If an aperitif is planned outside the tunnel, we have the front part of the restaurant or the Inspiration room as a backup option.

Which rooms can be used for a wedding?

Accepted Answer

Almost all rooms can be used for a wedding ceremony. We really have quite a few options - depending on your taste and theme. We recommend holding the wedding reception in the event cavern where we have our kitchen and the space is ideally equipped.
